Mr. Saunders brings to Polenberg, Cooper, Saunders, & Riesberg, PL a unique combination of commercial transactional and transactional tax experience. With more than 22 years of practice, Mr. Saunders has counseled businesses regarding all aspects of their ownership and operation, and has structured the tax aspects of their transactions. His clients include large and small companies in myriad industries including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, agricultural, healthcare, insurance, and other service industries.
Mr. Saunders began his legal career as an attorney-advisor with the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel in Washington, D.C., where he spent five years specializing in partnerships and S corporation taxation. This experience, combined with his LL.M. in Taxation, enables Mr. Saunders to locate potential tax traps in business transactions. After leaving the government, Mr. Saunders practiced law in Chicago, Illinois before moving to South Florida in 1999. Mr. Saunders first joined the prestigious law firm of Fowler White Burnett, and then moved to the business transactional boutique law firm of Genauer & Associates, P.A. (formerly Karp & Genauer, P.A.). Mr. Saunders left Genauer & Associates, P.A. in 2009 to start his own law firm, and has now joined his business transactional and tax practice as a shareholder with Polenberg Cooper’s complex commercial litigation practice.
Mr. Saunders earned his Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1988 after obtaining his Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance at Hofstra University. While in the JD program, Mr. Saunders pursued a concentration in business and taxation, which culminated in a Masters of Laws in Taxation in 1990 from the George Washington University School of Law.
Mr. Saunders is licensed to practice in the State of Florida and the United States Tax Court, and is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law and Tax Law Sections) and Broward County Bar Association.
